St Lucia is a mountainous, lush island, with a rainforest, sunshine, clear blue waters, banana plantations, sulphur springs, and is largely undeveloped with warm, friendly people. It has one of the lowest crime rates in the Caribbean, is politically stable and is currently experiencing a steady, economic growth.
St Lucia is situated between Martinique and St Vincent and is within easy reach of Barbados and other Caribbean islands. The climate is hot and tropical throughout the year, with daily temperatures averaging 80f (27c), but feeling cooler in the trade winds. Showers can occur any time but don't last long, although the rainy season is June to October and hurricane season roughly from August to October. High season is December to April when the temperature is pleasant and hot and this rises further during the summer months.
There are dozens of soft sandy beaches, some more remote than others, so without facilities, others, like Reduit beach at Rodney Bay where you can hire sunbeds and umbrellas, find places to eat and drink, and take part in various watersports.
If beaches aren't your thing there are plenty of hiking trails thoughout the interior where you might come across one of the many waterfalls where you can cool off, or along coastal paths, or you can take a trip on the aerial tramway through the rainforest or for the more adventurous take a zipline down through the rainforest.
You can also go mountain biking, horse riding, take helicopter tours or boat cruises and visit some of the plantations or botanical gardens or hire a car and get around visiting some of the pretty fishing villages dotted around the East, West and South Coasts.
